MANILAbet88, Philippines — Business conglomerate San Miguel Corp. has completed the cleanup of the Pampanga River as part of an SMC initiative to help mitigate flooding in Luzon.
The cleanup operation removed up to 700,000 tons of silt and solid waste, deepened the river’s channel and improved water flow.
“For communities in Macabebe town, this brings a much-needed relief from flooding and strengthens defenses for their homes, farms and schools,” SMC chairman and chief excutive officer Ramon Ang said.
Each was sentenced to reclusion perpetua, equivalent to 20 to 40 years imprisonment, for each count.
“Look for ways to reduce the UCME. I know that hybridization is one and connecting to the grid could be another,” he told NPC officials.
The project, which is part of SMC’s Better Rivers Ph initiative, did not use taxpayers’ money, the SMC said.
funph games“Flooding is a major issue for our cities and provinces, with many contributing factors. We’re committed to do what we can to clean up our river system and help the government and our communities,” Ang said as he stressed the importance of cleaning up the Pampanga River.
He said the river is a major waterway in Central Luzon.
The Pampanga River cleanup is the latest addition to SMC’s growing list of completed river initiatives.
